Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has ordered the immediate release of $ 11,700,000 (Eleven Million and Seven Hundred Thousand Dollars) in Somali government accounts and transferring it to Somaliland.
The money is an international grant for development projects in Somaliland, held by the Somali federal government, according to Roble’s office.
The money will be used to fund emergency services in response to the fire that destroyed the main market in Hargeisa.
Roble’s office did not provide details on how the money came to be or why it was originally intended, but it is a money that will go a long way in providing emergency assistance to Somalilanders.
