Somalia: Cabinet meets to accelerate the War on Terror

The Cabinet meeting chaired today by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has today made important decisions which are aimed at dealing with the security situation in the country.

The cabinet decided to establish a committee to organize and coordinate activities to combat terrorism, which consists of the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministers of Defence, Security, Endowment and Religious Affairs, Internal Affairs, Finance, Health, Youth, Communications and the Armed Forces Commanders.

“The Prime Minister will add to the committee for the organization and coordination of activities to fight against terrorism to eliminate others who he deems indispensable in this task.”

The Council also decided that the program to combat violent extremist ideology should be changed to the National Agency for Combating Violent Extremist Ideology.

The council suggested that in order to strengthen the role of national security, the national security council should hold special meetings to direct the operations to free the country from terrorism.

Today’s meeting also decided to hold a national conference to discuss the spread, encouragement and nationalization of the public uprising against terrorism which will be faciliated by the Ministry of Interior, Federal and Reconciliation.

“The cabinet decided to implement the Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism Act, and target and destroy the networks of terrorist organizations responsible for financing; a list of restrictions & sanctions will be drawn up and enforced.”

Finally, the cabinet decided to approve a successful strategy for the eradication of terrorism, to unite the forces of the Somali people at home and abroad, the federal government, regional governments and friends of Somalia.
