Somalia, China sign new agreement

A memorandum of understanding relating to the renovation and equipping of the National Theater, Radio Mogadishu and the SONNA news agency was signed by Somali Government Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Osman Abokor Dubbe and Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Fei Shengchoa.
The signing ceremony was held in Mogadishu today with Chinese songs performed by Waberi artists.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Information said that the agreement was the beginning of a broader future cooperation between Somalia and China, noting that the ideas related to this agreement include the renovation of some departments such as; Radio Mogadishu, Theater and SONNA.
“This agreement is really a good start for the governments of China and Somalia” Said Minister Dubbe.
The National Theater was built by the Chinese government in 1965 and after the collapse of the country, the Somali federal government had rebuild it with the national volunteer program in 2019.
Somalia and China have a long-standing relationship, and the Chinese government has implemented major projects in the country, including Stadium Mogadishu, Banadir Maternity and Children’s Hospital and major roads from Beledweyne to Burao.
