Somalia elects first two seats in the House of the People

The election of the first two seats in the House of the People took place today at the General Kahiye Police Academy in Mogadishu, whose constituency are from the Northern Regions of Somaliland.
The two seats HOP239 and HOP237 were contested by four candidates, one of whom was already in the House of Representatives, and three new candidates, with 101 delegates voting in the election for each seat.
The first seat in the House of the People was contested by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia Mahdi Mohamed Guled (Khadar) & Mushtaq Ibrahim Yusuf, with 97 votes won by Mahdi Mohamed Guled while his rival Mushtaq Ibrahim Yusuf received only three votes.
The second seat of the House of the People was contested by two members, Bihi Iman Egeh and Abdirahman Hassan Ismail, and the seat was won again by Bihi Iman Egeh who received 91 votes while Abdirahman Hassan Ismail received 9 votes.
It is expected that the committee in charge of the election of seats in the northern regions of Somaliland will soon complete the remaining seats in the parliament of the northern regions.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble, has congratulated the newly elected members of the House of Representatives in Mogadishu.
Prime Minister Roble said he was pleased that the election of the National Assembly had begun in earnest, and called on the federal states to immediately begin the process of electing members of Parliament.
“I am pleased that the election of the members of the House of the People has officially started today. I urge the states to begin holding parliamentary elections as soon as possible, and I hope the election process is a success, ”said Roble.
The regional administrations in the country are expected to start elections soon, with the exception of the Galmudug administration, which still has two seats left in the Upper House.
