Somalia: Federal Electoral Commission issues new updates

The Federal Indirect Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) has issued a statement on the country’s elections, calling for for expedition of the parliamentary elections.

Federal Electoral Commission spokesman Ahmed Safina said the country’s elections are nearing completion, and demanded that the remaining seats be expedited to ensure the completion of the 275-member lower house.

Ahmed Safina also said that the constituencies in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug state, have been completed today.

“National elections are coming to an end. We have completed 5 seats in Benadir, 46 seats in the Northern region representations, 26 seats in Dhusamareb and 26 seats in Barawe,” said Safina.

“We still have 16 seats in Garbaharey, 11 in Galkayo which is the second constituency of Galmudug, 16 in Bossaso, 19 seats in South West, and elections are underway in Garowe, Kismayo, Jowhar and Beledweyne” the spokesman continued.

Elections for Somalia’s 11th Parliamentary Assembly were scheduled to end today, but the National Consultative Assembly extended the elections by 18 days to March 15, 2022.
