Somali Foreign Affairs Minister Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud recently spoke about the relationship between the Somali government and the Kenyan government.

Foreign Affairs Minister Mohamed Abdirasak said efforts are under way to improve relations between the two neighboring countries.

“I can assure you that there are efforts to improve relations between the two countries but the Somali government is committed to safeguarding its independence.” said the Somali Foreign Minister to state media.

Somalia’s foreign minister’s announcement comes as the Kenyan government has threatened to suspend flights operated by aid agencies after flights between the two countries were suspended.

Relations between Somalia and Kenya broke down, and in December 2020 the Somali government recalled Ambassador Mohamud Ahmed-Nur Tarsan, while Kenya returned its ambassador from Mogadishu. A recent visit by a Qatari envoy to Somalia had announces resumption of relations between the two countries.
