Somalia; Suicide bomber strikes at military base, Middle Shabelle

Reports coming in from local sources indicate that suicide car bomb has exploded at a military base in the Middle Shabelle region of Somalia.

Early reports from witnesses told media that the explosion had injured army officials who were stationed at the base of the attack.

Preliminary reports indicate that Colonel Saney Abdulle, a leading military figure and one of the commanders who lead the armed forces who entered Mogadishu earlier this year to reject Somali Governments extension plans, was wounded in the explosion at the military base in Biyo Adde, Middle Shabelle region.

Four soldiers were killed and several others were injured in the blast, according to early reports.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the blast, and the Somali government are yet to comment on todays attack in the military base.

Earlier this week, a suicide bomber said to have impersonated young recruits who wanted to enlist in the army and then detonated himself up as soon as when he entered the queue.

Somalia’s military general confirmed to media that 10 army recruits were killed in the attack in General Dhaga Badan Army Camp on June 15th.
