England hit double figures for the first time since 1964 as they secured qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with embarrassing ease in San Marino.

Harry Kane also racked up the records by scoring four in the first half to go level with Gary Lineker on 48 England goals, additionally setting a new high of 13 for his country in a calendar year as he followed up his hat-trick in the 5-0 win against Albania.

On the final day of the Tokyo Olympics, Abdi Nageeye reminded the world what the Games are all about with his unforgettable silver medal marathon performance.

In the dying stages of the men’s race, Nageeye of the Netherlands cheered and encouraged his exhausted Belgian training partner Bashir Abdi. The gesture was enough to lift them both to a podium finish, with Nageeye taking the silver in 2:09:58 and Abdi securing bronze in 2:10:00.

Somalia national team manager Said Abdi Haibeh has called for the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Manchester City – which added more pressure on the already troubled club.

The king is back; Xavi back at Barcelona, named head coach until 2024

Barcelona said on Saturday they had named former midfielder and captain Xavi Hernandez as head coach on a contract until 2024, following the sacking of Ronald Koeman.

The LaLiga club received the green light on Friday to sign the 41-year-old after they paid the release clause in his contract with Qatari side Al-Sadd.

Xavi played for Barcelona for 17 years, making 767 appearances and winning 25 trophies, including four Champions League wins and eight league titles.

Steve Bruce leaves Newcastle United; Saudi owners hunt for manager

Steve Bruce has parted company with Newcastle United after the club’s new owners decided a change of manager was imperative.

Bruce had spent just over two years in charge at St James’ Park after succeeding Rafael Benítez in July 2019 and presided over his 1,000th game in club management when Tottenham won 3-2 on Tyneside in front of the live television cameras on Sunday.

Tokyo Olympics: Sifan Hassan wins 10,000m gold for third medal of Games

The Netherlands’ Sifan Hassan won the 10,000m to seal her second gold and third medal of the Tokyo Olympics.

The 28-year-old, who had been seeking an unprecedented golden treble, had missed out on that feat when she took bronze in the 1500m but still takes home a hat-trick of medals after adding Saturday’s gold to her 5,000m title.

Ramla Ali’s historic appearance for Somalia at the Olympic Games ended in a unanimous decision defeat to Claudia Nechita in Tokyo.

Abdalelah Haroun: Qatari sprinter killed in car crash in Doha, aged 24

 Qatari sprinter Abdalelah Haroun, who won bronze in the 400m at the 2017 World Championships in London, has died in a car crash aged 24.

Qatar Athletics Federation chairman Mohammed Issa al-Fadala said Haroun was killed in an incident in Doha.

Haroun also won silver at the World Indoor Championships in 2016 and gold at the Asian Games in 2018.

“Qatar sports and athletics, on a global level, lost a great hero,” said al-Fadala.

Somalia fires Coach after ”Insulting players”

The Somali football federation (SFF) has announced the dismissal of national team coach Abdellatif Salef from Morocco after only being in charge for less than three weeks.

A statement from the Somali Football Federation’s office said that coach Abdellatif Salef has insulted some of the Somali players who are currently training in the Republic of Djibouti. The Football Association also revealed that the Moroccan had mistreated the players during his short tenure in charge as the countries national team head coach.
