The powerful ruler feared by South West State politicians2 min read
Opposition politicians have been complaining about the situation in the South West State of Somalia, in particular with the presence of Commander of the Somali Correctional Forces, General Mahad Abdirahman Adan, who is based in Baidoa, the capital of Bay region.
Commander Mahad left Mogadishu months ago with military vehicles and some troops from the Somali Correctional Forces, and has become the most talked about person in Baidoa, much to the chagrin of politicians and other individuals close to members of the opposition.
General Mahad Abdirahman Aden has no visible position in the South West, but he is a close friend and relative of President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Lafta-Gareen, which has made him a prominent figure in South West politics.
Lafta-gareen is married to Commander Mahad’s daughter, Zamzam Mahad Abdirahman.
Various sources have confirmed to MTVSomali.com that General Mahad is one of the individuals making the final decision on certain political and security issues in the South West.
Politicians from the South West Administration have also been complaining about Abdullahi Kulane Jiis, who was recently sacked by the prime minister after refusing orders, and is one of President Farmajo’s closest allies who is also in Baidoa past recent weeks.
South West State has become the most complained-ridden administration at the moment, and opposition politicians are increasingly saying they are being targeted.
State president Abdiazziz Lafta-gareen recently signed up to the Upper House list individuals who are married to General Mahad’s two daughters to the Upper House list, namely; Aden Abdinasir Mohamed, Minister of State for the Interior of Somalia who is married to Anisa Mahad Abdirahman, and Dr. Hussein Mohamed Dahir who is married to Ilhan Mahad Abdirahman, both whom are daughters of General Mahad Abdirahman Aden.
