US Ambassador and AFRICOM Commander Visit Bali-Doogle Camp

US Ambassador to Somalia Larry André has today visited Ballidoogle military base in Lower Shabelle region, his first visit since being appointed by President Biden.

Larry was accompanied by the Commander of the US Military mission in Africa (AFRICOM), Gen. Andrew Gutti. Stephen Townsend, as they inspected the condition of the base, which is home to the U.S. Army and the National Guard.

During their stay, the US Ambassador and the Commander of AFRICOM met with US forces in Ballidoogle, the Somali National Army (SNA) and the Ugandan contingent of AMISOM, to discuss counter-terrorism.

Also Ambassador André and Gen. Stephen met with the Commander of the Armed Forces, General Odowa Yusuf Rage, to discuss security issues and operations against terrorist groups.

The Ballidoogle base in the Lower Shabelle region, home to US troops and trainers, is largely controlled by the Somali National Army (SNA) DANAB operations in southern Somalia as well as US drone strikes.
