The US Senate has approved Ambassador Larry Andre as the new US Ambassador to Somalia, replacing Donald Yamamoto, who has been inactive for several months.

Larry Andre, the newly appointed US Ambassador to Somalia, is a former US Ambassador to Djibouti.

In mid-April, US President Joe Biden officially named Ambassador Larry Andre as the new US Ambassador to Somalia, replacing Donald Yamamoto.

President Biden has chosen US Ambassador to Somalia Larry André Jr, a veteran diplomat.

André was one of nine ambassadors appointed on April 16 by Joe Biden, most of whom were appointed to African countries.

Ambassador Larry Andre waited for approval from the US Senate, before taking office.

André served as US Ambassador to Djibouti from November 20, 2017 to January 20, 2021, before serving as US Ambassador to Mauritania from 2014 to 2017.

Ambassador Larry Andre is a veteran diplomat, having worked in diplomacy since 1990, and has served in nine foreign missions, mostly in Africa.

Political analysts believe Larry André’s appointment will come at a testing time for the Federal Government of Somalia, as he is a diplomat who believes in democracy and human rights, and will face much pressure.
